How is lunch packaged?

Hot meals come in BPA-free plastic trays with a plastic sealing and cold meals come in BPA-free plastic containers. We select our packaging with several goals in mind.  It must be safe for the kids, good at maintaining temperature over time, good for the environment, and maintain lunch integrity (no spilling or leaking).

These trays are completely BPA-free and FDA approved for high temperature food use.  They have a high oxygen barrier to prevent any interaction with the food and allow a film seal top that prevents spilling and leaking.  They’re also marked for Recycling #1, making it part of the most recycled plastic material.  They’ve also proven to be excellent at keeping food at high temperatures, so your luncher can enjoy his or her lunch at the right temperature.

We constantly review our packaging options for each type of meal we offer (hot vs. cold, soups vs. pastas, etc.), to find the best balance between food safety, sustainability, economy, and ease of meal distribution for our schools.

Each meal comes with a set of silverware and a napkin. For our junior daycares, utensils are provided by the daycare.
